Orange County resident Takai Jackson, age 27, of Newburgh, was busted by the Dutchess County Drug Task Force on Tuesday, Jan. 9 in Poughkeepsie.

According to Sgt. Adam Harris of the Dutchess County task force, during the investigation Jackson was identified as moving drugs in the region.

As a result, he was taken into custody at which time fentanyl and cocaine were found in his possession, Harris said.

He was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession with intent to sell, both felonies.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit assisted at the scene.

Jackson was processed and released to the supervision of Dutchess County Probation.

"The Dutchess County Drug Task Force is working to keep dangerous drugs and dangerous offenders out of our community," Harris said. "In this case, Mr. Jackson, on multiple occasions was transporting a dangerous synthetic opioid (fentanyl) from Newburgh to Poughkeepsie."

Dutchess County District Attorney, Anthony P. Parisi, stated “I want the peddlers of these dangerous opioids to receive this message – Don’t bring your poison to Dutchess County.”

The Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office Narcotics Bureau and the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department assisted the Dutchess County Drug Task Force during the investigation.
